On the 20th January 2014, we got the opportunity to see the RTE Concert Orchestra and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra perform in the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Not only did we learn a number of new songs but we also became familiar with some of the instruments used by the orchestra including the oboe, double bass and the glockenspiel. It was really interesting to see what instrument was used to make the magical music in 'Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy'. It is called the celesta and it is a member of the percussion family. We really enjoyed watching the orchestra!
