We have been busy bees this September
We have had some amazing learning take place in our Junior and Senior infants classroom this September. Our Aistear theme for September has been 'School'. During our theme we went on a tour of the school and saw all the different rooms we have. We saw all the classrooms, school hall, staff-room, kitchen, school shop and our caretakers room. We also talked about all the different jobs people have in our school like our principal, secretary, caretaker and teachers.
We have 5 play stations in our room, a construction area, play dough table, funky fingers table, role play area and a sand area. During our theme we made all different kinds of schools in our construction area, we pretended to be teachers in the role play area, we drew what we see on on way to school at the funky fingers table, we found different objects from school in the sand and in the play dough area we created different objects we have in our classroom.
Take a look at some pictures below!

Junior and Senior Infant School Tour 2018
On Friday June 8th, we set off to Loughwell Farm Park in Moycullen. We were all given a buddy to take special care of. We had a fantastic time on the slides and in the indoor play area. Next we moved on to using giant Lego and bowling. Happy hoppers were really exciting and we bounced our way around the sand pit! The go karts went down a treat and we learnt about the importance of driving one way. The playground featured a tractor and school bus with slides. There was a fabulous role play area with a fire station, restaurant, post office and supermarket. The barrel train was a favourite for us and it took us around the grounds of the park. At the end of our tour, we went to visit the animals and got to hold them. We were all so well behaved, remembering our manners, taking care of our partners for the day, obeying rules and putting our rubbish into the bins. When we got back to school, we were all exhausted after an incredible day of fun and great memories!
Making the most of the Sunshine
Over the past couple of weeks, we've been getting outside as much as possible especially for P.E., maths and science. We have also had a few picnics outside, learning the importance of using our lunchbox as a bin until we get back inside. The children show an admirable respect for the environment! The most exciting activity we engaged in was making ice-cream. Here's hoping the sunshine continues!
Our Fabulous Art Work

We learnt the most effective ways to keep our teeth happy and healthy and we were shown the quantities of sugar in some of our favourite treats. We practiced brushing a giant model of teeth in circular motions. Now we are all set for our Aistear theme of 'The Dentist'!
Beating the January Blues
Junior and senior infants have had an exciting January. We have engaged in station teaching for maths and are exploring the 'Post Office' as our Aistear theme this month. We have been making stamps, envelopes, letters, postcards and posting our letters in the classroom postbox. We brought in a toy for 'Show and Tell' after our Christmas break and got to see and hear all about one another's fabulous toys! It was like our very own Toy Show! Also, we have been walking and jogging laps of the school and are improving everyday! If all of this wasn't entertaining enough we won classroom of the month for our positive behaviour and we had a very special visitor, a PUPPY!!!
January Stars of the Month
Congratulations to the Stars of Junior and Senior infants this month. All children in the class show fantastic manners and care for one another. These pupils stood out this month as making a special effort. Well done, we are very proud of you!
Whoops-a-Daisy Angel
We worked exceptionally hard to prepare our Christmas play and the end result was certainly well worth it. All of the children recited their lines fantastically and most importantly had fun on stage. The music and singing was something we are hugely proud of. We hope you all enjoyed our performance of 'Whoops-a-Daisy Angel'. The artwork we created for Christmas created great excitement around the school and was on display for our Christmas play.
Halloween Excitement
Junior and senior infant pupils had great fun preparing for Halloween. The children performed at the school's assembly and explained the history of Halloween to the other classes in the school. We were all so excited and we performed wonderfully! Our admirable behaviour, good manners and hard work meant that we won classroom of the month in the school. The children dressed up in terrifying costumes and were unrecognisable! If all of this wasn't exciting enough, we baked cookies in the shape of spiders, bats, cats and ghosts to celebrate Halloween!
Aistear Fun at the Doctor's Surgery
The children in junior and senior infants have been learning about bodies and how to stay healthy. In our role play area, the children have been dressing up and playing doctor's surgery. This has helped us to learn complex vocabulary such as 'appointment', 'prescription' and 'stethoscope'. We take turns role playing the patient, receptionist, nurse and doctor. We have also been making skeletons and humans at our art station. At the play dough station, we have been creating healthy and unhealthy foods. Building hospitals, ambulances and humans from lego and blocks has been great fun!

Some words used were: cold, slippery, cracked, smooth, wet, circular, icy and heavy. We all got a turn to put ice in the bowls and added a different item to each bowl. We took predictions on what would we thought would melt the quickest. We then put on the timer and waited. An hour and a half later, we got results!
