Sports Day
We had a wonderful day on Friday last as we hosted our annual sports day in Scoil Chomáin Naofa . We started off bright and early and thankfully the rain stayed away. The day had consisted of lots of different activities and the children really enjoyed earning points for their team. Well done to all the children who participated. Sincere thanks to all the parents, grandparents and siblings who attended.
Mc Cartan Cup and Heaney Shield
The annual Mc Cartan Cup and Heaney Shield parish competitions took place last week in Hollymount pitch. The evening began with the national anthem performed by Scoil Chomáin Naofa's school band. The girls togged out and were all ready to play but the ref had been held up. The spectators began to panic , the children from all the primary schools began to panic, the trainers began to panic ... but then one man came to the rescue . It was in fact Fr. Mike !! He swooped in and saved the day when he agreed to ref the match . Thanks Fr. Mike !!!
The Heaney Shield got off to an amazing start. Scoil Chomáin Naofa were tested many times throughout the match by very strong opposition in Robeen , Lehinch , Gorthsheky abd Cloghans Hill. When the final whistle blew our girls were victorious. The girl's captain Leonie accepted the Heaney Shield on behalf of the team .
The Mc Cartan cup proved to be another exciting game of football. It was a very close game and when the final whistle blew the boys from Scoil Chomáin Naofa were narrowly defeated by the boys from Cloghans Hill, Lehinch, Gorthsheky and Robeen. The boys were gracious in their defeat. The McCartan Cup was present to the winners by Ríanna Mc Cartan.

Road Safety - Streetscape
The children of Roundfort NS had a great time today learning all about road safety! We learned how to cross roads carefully and know now our code: Stop, Look and Listen. We also learned that unless you are one and a half metres tall you always need to travel sitting on a car seat or booster! We had lots of fun!

Fred the Party Professor
On the 19th of December we were delighted to witness the magical greatness of Fred the Party Professor! He surprised us with his juggling skills, even juggling three very sharp knives! His card tricks fooled us all and when his pen starting writing on his own we couldn't believe our eyes. Fred then drew a face on a whiteboard and called him "Sausage". Sausage came to life and sang us a song. We couldn't beleive it. We were lucky we didn't have to ring an ambulance when Kevin's arm was put under a blade! Overall we really enjoyed magical Fred, he put on a fantastic show. Check out the video below!

Football Results for Roundfort NS
Roundfort N.S had a day of mixed results in the quarter finals of the Cumann Na mBunscol held in Bekan last week . Both teams were pitted against Charlestown N.S and while the boys had a successful day and move into semi finals, the girls bowed out of the competition to a very strong Charlestown outfit . Charlestown played with the breeze in the first half and made it count Scoring a goal within two minutes of start . Charlestown had some excellent players around the middle and kept a good supply of ball into their forward line and were leading at half time 3-1 to 0-1. Roundfort had a number of attacks during the first half but luck was not on their side and hit a number of wides before Chloe Jennings scored a point . Roundfort settled more in the second with the wind to their back but never got through the Charlestown defence for a goal that might have given them some hope . Roundfort never threw in the towel and scored Further points from Ella Ormsby showed great spirit.

Family Fun Sponsered Walk
On Wednesday, 22nd April, we set off from Scoil Chomáin Naofa Roundfort on our sponsored walk. To say we were excited was an understatement. All the school community were dressed in their high vis gear, runners and tracksuits. Earlier in the day, rain poured from the skies and it was looking doubtful whether we would go or not! As luck would have it, the clouds parted and the sun sun through. We were overwhelmed by the parental support that turned out on this day, thank you so so much!
The walk itself consisted of 6km with a stop off refreshment break at Aoife and Grace Kelly's house. There the children and adults enjoyed healthy treats and refreshing water to boost our energy for the second leg of the journey! Thanks to Mrs Kelly for hosting this at her house, we really appreciated this.
We then made our way back and arrived at the school, tired, relieved and proud!
We would like to say a special thanks to Eugene McCarten, Donal Kelly, Tadhb Kennedy for insuring our safety at all times. Keep up the walking everybody and we will see you again next year!!

Earth Day - Spring Community Clean Up
On the 22nd of April, to celebrate Earth Day, we at Roundfort N.S decided it was time to don our gloves, pick up our litter pickers and take to the roads to help keep our local community clean!
We decided to target different areas of our local community here in Roundfort. The infant classes did a huge clean up in the school yard; senior infants and first class worked tirelessly around the church grounds; second , third and fourth targeted the local graveyard while the fifth and sixth focused on the grounds surrounding the local community centre. The sun shone brightly as the children set out on their cleaning mission! Lots of litter were collected and sorted into recyclables and non – recyclables. We are very proud of all our students and how much they know and respect the local environment. Well done to all our pupils and staff for participating in very worth-while activity and keeping alive our Green Flag belief!

St. Patrick's Day Parade
Well done to the children from 5th and 6th Class who participated in the parade in Ballinrobe. The children had been practising really hard in the weeks leading up to the big event. We were delighted to hear that many parents were delighted to see Roundfort NS School Band back in force.
The children wore traditional costumes that were hand made by teachers and parents many many years ago and we were very honoured to be able to still wear them. The band were outstanding on the day, so well done to you all. Check out our parade photos below.

PROCLAMATION DAY 2016
On the 15th March 2016, we celebrated our Proclamation Day. This proudly took place under the beautiful blue skies with parents, grandparents, and the wider community. The school band performed excellently to start our assembly, after which we held a minutes silence for those who lost their lives in the 1916 Rising. Our 3rd and 4th class pupils showed us their fantastic acting skills by dramatizing the 1916. Our very talented music group in 5th and 6th also treated us to a medley of Irish traditional music. The Proclamation was then read by Mrs Gallagher and after we all rose and sang our national anthem.
We also have two very special children - Thomas and Michael - who have a very special family connection to two of the leaders in the 1916 rising - Con Colbert and Michael Collins!! They did a great job of raising the Irish flag, well done boys!!
A big thanks to all the children, teachers and visitors who came to join us on this special day and who have worked so hard to instil the importance of the 1916 events.
On the 15th March 2016, we celebrated our Proclamation Day. This proudly took place under the beautiful blue skies with parents, grandparents, and the wider community. The school band performed excellently to start our assembly, after which we held a minutes silence for those who lost their lives in the 1916 Rising.
