Gymnastics
All our pupils have access to gymnastics lessons as part of their Physical Education Curriculum. The school has secured the services of gymnastics instructors for a number of years now.. It has been a great pleasure and a learning experience for everyone working with them. Gymnastics is a foundation sport for all other sports. This is because it develops agility, balance, coordination and speed (the ABC’s of athleticism) . These physical qualities are inherent in all sports.
Athletics
Pupils from first to sixth classes will attend Athletics, in conjunction with Mayo Partnership in the ‘state of the art’ facility in Claremorris. The instructors there will put the children through their paces. With so much emphasis at present on children’s health and the importance of physical activity , we can understand how important physical activity is to the overall well being of our children. Children participating in these lessons truly benefit. This exposure to athletics encourages some of our pupils to become members of the athletic club. They report how enjoyable involvement is. The benefits translate into the classroom.
Swimming
Every year we go swimming as part of the children’s P.E. curriculum. Pupils from 2nd class to 6th class inclusive attend the pool in Claremorris. The children have a great time taking part in this activity.
